Cleaning Procedure for New Equipment, Machineries, and Accessories

1.0 Objective:

To establish a procedure for the cleaning of newly acquired equipment, machinery, in-process product containers, and accessories.

2.0 Scope:

This procedure applies to the cleaning of new equipment, machinery, in-process product containers, and accessories within the production department.

3.0 Responsibility:

Officers and Executives in the Production Department bear the responsibility for this procedure. The Production Department Manager also has a role.

4.0 Definitions:

Accessories: Includes sieves, screens, spatulas, scoops, stainless steel (SS) jugs, SS buckets, SS pellets, SS containers, in-process product containers (IPC), SS trolleys, SS dustbins, SS furniture, etc.

5.0 Procedure:

5.1 Dust Removal:

Use a vacuum cleaner to thoroughly remove any adherent dust from the new equipment, machinery, in-process product containers, and accessories.

5.2 Removal of Black Particles:

Gently rub the inner and outer surfaces with maize starch to eliminate black particles or foreign matter that may have been generated during the buffing process at the manufacturer’s site.

5.3 Water Cleaning:

Clean the equipment, machinery, in-process product containers, and accessories with purified water to eliminate any traces of black particles, foreign matter, and starch.

5.4 Drying:

Thoroughly dry the equipment using freshly laundered lint-free cloth.

5.5 Alcohol Wiping:

Use a lint-free cloth dipped in 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to wipe the inner and outer surfaces of the equipment, machinery, and in-process product containers.

5.6 Labeling:

Affix a ‘CLEANED’ status label containing details such as Unit, Department, Equipment name, Cleaned by, Checked by Production Officer, Date, and Quality Assurance (QA) certification.

Note: For new equipment, machinery, and in-process product containers, write “Previous Product and Batch No.” and “Next Product and Batch No.” as a dash (-).
