SOP on Operation of Colloidal Mill

1.0 OBJECTIVE: The aim of this procedure is to establish guidelines for the Operation of Colloidal Mill.

2.0 SCOPE: This procedure is applicable to the operation of the Colloidal Mill within the production area.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY: The responsibility for implementing this procedure lies with the following personnel:

4.0 DEFINITION(S):

5.0 PROCEDURE:
5.1 Operation:
5.1.1 Ensure that the equipment and the surrounding area are clean.
5.1.2 Once the Quality Assurance (QA) team has provided line clearance, affix the “UNDER PROCESS” label on the machine after filling it out and signing it.
5.1.3 Record the batch start time in the equipment usage log sheet, following SOP “Making entries in equipment usage and cleaning log sheet“.
5.1.4 Switch on the main power supply.
5.1.5 Always confirm that the mill’s rotation direction is clockwise.
5.1.6 Before starting the machine, adjust the grinding slit by loosening both handles from the adjusting ring until the ring can freely rotate. Turn the handles clockwise for a finer grinding slit or anti-clockwise to increase the opening. Once adjusted, secure the ring by screwing the handles back in.
5.1.7 Carefully pour the material into the hopper, and monitor the material’s revolution.
5.1.8 Mill the material for the duration specified in the Batch Manufacturing Record (BMR) and make a note of it.
5.1.9 Record the completion time of the milling process in the equipment usage log sheet.
5.1.10 Switch off the main power supply.
5.1.11 Replace the “UNDER PROCESS” label with the “TO BE CLEANED” label, ensuring it is duly filled out and signed, and affix it to the machine.

NOTE: If the mill stops abruptly, switch off the main power connection, widen the grinding slot, and restart. If the problem persists, remove the material from the charging hopper. Disassemble the mill, clean, readjust, and reassemble.

5.2 Precautions:
5.2.1 Do not introduce oil or grease into the main housing.
5.2.2 Never leave the machine with the material inside overnight or for an extended period.
